The pancreas plays a crucial role in the regulation of blood sugar levels, and one of its primary functions is the production of insulin. Insulin is a hormone that is essential for allowing glucose, which comes from the food we eat, to enter the cells of the body where it can be used for energy. By producing insulin, the pancreas helps to maintain appropriate blood glucose levels, preventing complications associated with diabetes and other metabolic disorders.

While other substances like cortisol and adrenaline are important in the body's response to stress and metabolic functions, they are produced by the adrenal glands rather than the pancreas. Glucose itself is not produced by the pancreas; rather, it is the end product of carbohydrate digestion. In summary, the pancreas's production of insulin is essential for regulating blood sugar levels, making it the correct answer to the question.
